Sealing System Leakage Analysis

The sealing system is broken down in to several areas. Each of these areas can contribute to seal failure if they are not manufactured and/or finished properly. A shaft for example, can cause ID (Inside diameter) leak problems if not finished properly. Along those same lines, a bore that is not finished properly can cause the OD (Outside diameter) to leak.

Below is a breakdown of the main sealing system components and where potential problems could arise. Each section has several common problems, possible causes, and some suggestions to correct the problem.
